What is lesser capybara?

The lesser capybara (Hydrochoerus isthmius) is a species of capybara found in Panama and Colombia. It is smaller in size compared to the more common capybara species (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris), with adults typically weighing between 35-45 kilograms.

These animals are semi-aquatic and are found in freshwater habitats such as rivers, marshes, and wetlands. They are social animals and live in groups consisting of both males and females.

Lesser capybaras are primarily herbivores, feeding on grasses, aquatic plants, and fruits. They are preyed upon by a variety of predators including jaguars, crocodiles, and large birds of prey.

The population of lesser capybaras is threatened by habitat loss and hunting for their meat and fur. Conservation efforts are being made to protect these animals and their habitat.
